“ Bell Hill Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir 2000 The wine itself displays wild berry aromatics, suppoted by French oak. It has a rich palate texture with sweet fruit concentration, reflecting the low yielding season of 2000. It is a powerful wine that shows subtlety and finesse, developing spicy, gamey characters adding complexity to the already vibrant fruit.”

Marcel Giesen and partner Sherwyn Veldhuizen have ventured into new territory, finding limestone soil and a climate that closely resembles that of Burgundy. They have planted 1 hectare of ultra-high-density pinot noir and chardonnay, and the first wine (from 18-month-old vines) is a brilliant achievement, with enormous promise for the future.Bell Hill Vineyard Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir (4.5 glasses) 1999

Vivid purple-red; a very pure expression of varietal character on the bouquet is still evolving; the palate is remarkable long and intense, with dark plum, bramble and a touch of spice. The wine has soaked up the French oak. rating: 93 best drinking 2002-2006 best vintages NA drink with duck breast $35
